Based on the survey results, most homeowners have not sought professional tree services, with 70% stating they had never hired a tree service company before. However, this landscape is changing. A remarkable 22% of homeowners are now actively seeking tree services, signaling a shift in their mindset towards the need for professional tree care.
Identifying homeowner needs
Understanding what these proactive homeowners are seeking is key to capitalizing on this trend. Of homeowners who are considering tree services, the highest percentages are looking for tree removal (43%) and tree trimming/pruning (38%) followed by stump grinding (11%).
Cost is still number one criterion for selection:
Not surprisingly, the most critical factors for selecting a tree services professional are cost of services (26%) and discounts and offers (15%). These are followed by insurance and proper certifications (13%) and expertise and demeanor (10%).
A climate connection?
One intriguing factor that may be contributing to the increased interest in tree services is the changing climate. Extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, storms, and wildfires, have become more frequent and severe in recent years. These events can have a significant impact on trees, leading to damage, weakened structures, and safety hazards. Homeowners may be more likely to proactively address arboreal issues that previously may have been ignored.
Climate conscious homeowners are also investing in tree services for tree upkeep and planting because they know that trees absorb carbon, provide shade and support biodiversity.
