It’s that time of year. Yes, you can see and smell the holidays around the corner, but that is not the time of year I am referencing. Rather, as we wind down another (hopefully successful) year of business and personal growth, it is the time of the year for reflection on the goals we had set and to start planning for the next set of goals that will dictate your success in the future. Today is the perfect day to share this post. It is not only a day before the last month of the year, but it is also the last day of the current month. Goals are not just reserved for the new year. You should be using goals for anything you are looking to accomplish, whether a single event, a a daily, a weekly, or any period of time. Goals are something you should take very seriously, as 99% of people that achieve success will credit goal setting as the driving force to that success. So the question is “how do I set goals effectively?”. In this video I detail the 2 different schools of thought in goal setting. Both are good, but there is one that I prefer and has been successful. I also discuss the process to not just think of a goal, but put yourself in the driver’s seat for achievement. Here is a summary of that process:
- Create/think of the goal
- Write it down
- Create your plan of achievement & write it down (Also discuss the WWW approach)
- Take action
- Accountability & Awareness
- Make adjustments
In addition to the process to help you become an effective goal setter and achiever, I reviewed and shared some additional goal setting ideas that are not like traditional goals. Typically goals are measurables such as revenue, profits, new customers, etc. However, there are many other ideas that you can use the same process and formula to reach success. Some of the reviewed ideas came from an article I shared in December 2018, such as going above & beyond in customer service, improving your online presence, increasing social proof, & creating more work/life balance.
There are additional tools and ideas I share to help anyone, regardless of being in the home improvement or home services business will benefit from. These same concepts are ones I have applied in my own business and life, helped home improvement pros elevate their games, and assisted some of the conXpos team in achieving more than they thought possible. Goal setting and achievement are for EVERYONE!!! There is no better time to reflect on the goals we set for 2020. There is still time in this year if we got off track, you just need to make the extra push. Setting effective goals and the planning take time. By starting now for the upcoming year, you will set yourself up for success. Just like anything that equates to success, you must put in the work. Goals do not get achieved by themselves. Rather through consistent awareness, effort, and commitment.
